The story of WIP

A walk in the park.

WIP (A Walk in the Park) began in January 2016 — born from a simple yet powerful intention: to create space for healing, movement, and connection. It started humbly in Parque del Sur, Maspalomas, when founder Lilly Rikhter led her first free outdoor session. A few people on the grass, breathing and stretching under the sun. She barely spoke English, had no grand plan — but people felt something different. They came back. And week after week, WIP quietly grew into a community.

Supported from the beginning by The Canary News, the project kept expanding — even through the pandemic. During lockdown, Lilly offered free online classes from home, helping hundreds find peace, grounding, and vitality during difficult times. Her dedication earned her recognition for social impact and community service.

In 2017, WIP became an officially registered non-profit association with a clear mission: to make wellness accessible to everyone, combining movement, mindfulness, and education to promote physical and emotional health.

Over the years, WIP has welcomed over 11,000 participants, from locals to travelers, children to seniors — all united by one simple truth: we feel better when we move and breathe together.

And then, in 2025, a Center. In 2026, a festival of 1,008.
The walk continues.

The walk so far

Ten years in six moments.

January

One yoga mat at Parque del Sur

Lilly Rikhter rolls out a single mat in Maspalomas and invites the neighbours. She barely speaks English. No plan, no budget. People come back the next week — and the week after.

Registered

WIP becomes a non-profit association

The free Sunday gatherings get a legal home: Asociación Cultural y Deportiva WIP. Mission: make wellness accessible to everyone, combining movement, mindfulness, and education.

The pandemic

Free online classes through lockdown

When the world shut down, Lilly opened her living room. Hundreds joined free online sessions for peace, grounding, and breath. WIP earned recognition for social impact.

Spring

The WIP Meditation Center opens

After almost a decade outdoors, the movement gets a home in Maspalomas — a sacred, modern space for yoga, meditation, sound, and holistic healing. All income reinvested in the mission.

April 26

1,008 at the first International Festival

Two traditions on one stage at the Amphitheatre of Parque del Sur — the Siddha lineage of Mahant Ramanatha and modern mindfulness with Javier Villaescusa. Live sacred music. Three OMs at the close.

The II Festival expands to three days

Friday to Sunday in Maspalomas. More masters, more traditions, workshops, an evening fire ceremony, sunrise yoga in the dunes. The festival becomes a retreat.

And the next chapter is being written right now — with every Sunday, every retreat, every new face on the mat.

WIP Meditation Center
A new chapter

The WIP Meditation Center.

From a local gathering to a global pulse

In 2025, WIP entered a new era. After nearly a decade of free community sessions, Lilly Rikhter felt the time had come to give this movement a home — a space where the same spirit of service and awareness could deepen and grow.

The result was the WIP Meditation Center in Maspalomas: a sacred yet modern space dedicated to yoga, meditation, sound, and holistic healing. Created in collaboration with BODHI Production SL and supported by patron Christophe Mazzola, the Center now serves as the living heart of the association.

The Center's income fully supports the non-profit association — helping sustain free outdoor sessions, volunteer programs, and new community projects across the Canary Islands.

Maspalomas

Lilly adapts every class to whoever shows up. My mum joins me, my kids join me. Nobody feels out of place.

The silent retreat reset something I didn't know was broken. I left lighter.

Playa del Inglés

Free yoga in the park, in two languages, with strangers who became friends. This is rare.
